Accelerated Program

A defined program structure enabling students to undertake fast-track study modes whereby students may complete their program in a shorter duration; for example taking an enrolment overload (ie greater than 40CP per trimester); studying in summer trimester and/or intensive mode.

Active Enrolment Status

A student has an active enrolment status when they have accepted an offer of admission to a program, and completed the enrolment procedures and other requirements specified by the University as a condition of enrolment. See Student Administration Policy

Academic Load

The term used to describe whether a student is enrolled full- or part-time.

Academic Subject Area

The Course Catalogue is organised into Academic Subject Areas to assist students to find a course. Each course is allocated to an Academic Subject Area based on its Field of Education Code. The Academic Subject Area of a course is displayed in the Course Catalogue and included in the information about a course when a student is enrolling.

Academic Integrity

Academic Integrity requires in the making of reasonable adjustments for students with disabilities, the University continues to ensure the integrity of its courses or programs and assessment requirements and processes, so that those upon whom it confers an award are able to present themselves as having the appropriate knowledge, experience and expertise implicit in the holding of that particular award.

Academic Calendar

Official calendar of the University comprises trimesters referred to as Trimester 1, Trimester 2 and Trimester 3. Other academic calendars for specific schools and programs for trimester academic calendar are also prepared.

Admission

Refers to the process of gaining entry to a program of study at the University.

Academic Plan

Within the program requirements a set of courses that develop a particular academic theme are identified and designated as an academic plan. An academic plan may be: award major (restricted to bachelor degrees); whereby the title of the major appears on the testamur major (restricted to bachelor degrees, and defined in the Bachelors Degree Policy); minor (restricted to bachelor degrees); specialisation (available in all program levels, no restriction on definition); strand (available in all program levels, no restriction on definition); stream (available in all program levels, no restriction on definition); teaching area (specific to Education programs). All academic plans achieved by a student appear on the academic transcript.

Academic Element

Refers to an academic organisational unit; such as an Academic Group, School, Department, Centre, or Institute.

Alternate Sittings (in examinations)

Where, in exceptional circumstances beyond the student's control, a student is unable to sit an examination at the scheduled time, the student may be granted an examination alternate sitting. Refer to Examination Procedures.
